International Summer Academy
Period: August 7th to 13th 2017// Vocal students from the 04th of August.
Thanks to a generous support from our sponsors and supporters, Stavanger Kammermusikkfestival (Chamber Music Festival in Stavanger) is able to offer its masterclasses for free. We guarantee a minimum of three hours teaching.
Number of participants
We will be accepting a maximum of 15 participants for instruments and vocal students. Depending on the number of applicants for each instrument offered, you might find that you are the only participant on your instrument.
We encourage all participants to initiate various chamber ensembles before and/or during your stay. Communication between the participants will be done through a closed Facebook group.
During the Festival week you will be a part of an exciting project with Julian Wachner and other Trinity Singers from New York. Masterclasses will have main focus on high level ensemble singing, but with a minor focus on solo presentation. Students will work on improvisation and movement work. From the 4th of August you will have a week of top level classes and will participate in the concert program performing with festival musicians.
To join as a vocal student you must have willingness to try new things, the ability to sight-read at a high level, and have an actual interest in ensemble singing.
Most of the masterclasses are open, and we encourage all students to experience other masterclasses in addition to their own with no extra cost.
All classes include free access to all concerts at the Chamber Music Festival in Stavanger (when seats available). The programme is available on the festival’s website.
Selected students will be required to perform at least one of the works they have been working on with the teachers during the week during concerts open to the audience together with festival musicians. This is a rare opportunity to play with some of our finest musicians! The events are all part of the festival programme.
Students are asked to accommodate themselves. You are, of course, welcome to book a room at our festival hotel, Comfort Square Hotel, were all musicians will be staying, but we can also recommend other, less expensive alternatives:
– Stavanger Hostel Mosvangen (http://hihostels.no/en/hostel/stavanger-hostel-mosvangen/)
– Stavanger Hostel St. Svithun (http://hihostels.no/en/hostel/stavanger-hostel-st-svithun/)
– Couchsurfing (https://www.couchsurfing.org)
– Airbnb (http://www.airbnb.com)
Meals are free for Masterclasses students. Enjoy a warm lunch and/or dinner in the festival canteen together with the festival artists and the volunteers. They are being served at the festival hotel from the 07th of August. All you need is to register for by 14.00 one day in advance.
Or take advantage of the many different cafées, cafeterias and restaurants in the town.
You are welcome to travel with your own accompanist at your own expense or you can use one of our accompanists at no extra costs. We do not guarantee that an accompanist will be available for all classes.
